Interpretations scatter and multiply. What's the plot? An individual and my death? A republic and ours? A Caesar and his? Or genocide? (Yes, not by chance, but not, as expected, from Germans; from Americans, out of an American crime.) Or opacity itself? Through these pages, the hermeneutical circle spins tight, spins out. We'll try the roads, with reflexive attention to the experiment of interpretation, and to the secrets of its production.
